After studying Japanese for 4 weeks, I found the most challenging part of learning Japanese is the vocabularies. Some of them sound like Chinese, but it is always ambiguous to distinguish the difference.

Why I chose to study Japanese
I am always interested in Japanese culture and traditions, and animations. I watched abundant animations. It started with Kiki's delivery service, and goes to Death Note, One Piece, Naruto, Gintama and so on. The process of waiting for the new episode to be translated in other language is always tough and struggling. So I decided to start learning Japanese and hope it could help me tracking on those new episodes. What is more, I also wanted to being able to talk in Japanese which would make traveling in Japan easier.

はじめまして。I've dabbled with Japanese anime too, especially Death Note and Naruto but I never got to watching the full series. Waiting for subtitles was always the worst part of my experience as well. Although I don't speak fluent Chinese, I've learned enough for the Japanese, Chinese and Korean words to get mixed up in my head too. But at times, I find this grasp of East Asian languages/cultures helps in our class!
ReplyDeleteはじめまして Jeffさん!Thanks for your reply! The similarity and the differences between East Asian languages would be really ambiguous sometimes! Hope we can all over come it!
Deleteはじめまして。
ReplyDeleteFeeling exact the same way.
The Japanese animations are evocative of my childhood, haven't watched that for such a long time. It was just a pleasant memory when I recently picked it up. I was obsessed with the romance anime. And I have to admit that the affection of romance tale sometimes make me realize how treasure love is. The interests in animation never faded away as I grow up.
はじめましてTianさん。Thanks for your replying! I'm also deeply influenced by those animations I watched in my childhood as well!

It was nice reading about your interest in Japanese culture and media!
I never really got to enjoy that culture so it was interesting how you were fascinated by the culture. Also, I feel the same way for Japanese and Korean, as well! It was difficult because there were subtle differences in the vocabulary and grammar here and there for my native language and Japanese. Hope you had a great semester! Good luck on finals!
